One reason I started this blog was to reflect back on things MY parents did for me -- as I navigate parenting myself. So in honor of Father's Day here is the video footage from the father-daughter dance at my wedding with my dad. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's three years ago after dealing with symptoms for the past five years, but it doesn't stop him from being so strong and fun! (Rowan, check out your Granddad's moves!)
I picked this song (You Put This Love in My Heart by
Keith Green) for our dad-daughter dance from one of his old records that I used to dance around the house to when I was tiny. I had to listen to it (along with our other wedding songs) just about every day leading up to our wedding to get all my crying out... which worked by the way... I was able to be SO HAPPY instead of a ball of all-the-mixed-emotional-tears. I used to cry nearly every time I saw a father-daughter dance at a wedding... but now it's the mother-son dances that GET ME. ahhhh!
My dad helped me make home movies/tv shows, always dances like nobody's watching, and has always stayed up late doing the things no one wants to help you with like a procrastinated project or taxes. This summer he even stayed out late to brave Disney in the rain with us and to ride all our favorite roller coasters. Obviously, he's a great spiritual example and the most kindhearted soul... but he's also the best friend.
Happy Father's Day!
