After wanting a wooden watch for a few years, I was really excited when JORD contacted me about reviewing one of their new styles. I've been wearing my watch for a few weeks now, so here are my thoughts...
FIRST IMPRESSIONS. My mama always taught me to wrap up gifts in pretty ways, so I love a good packaging aesthetic to get you excited right off the bat. From the second I opened my JORD package, I immediately fell in love with the engraved J box -- especially since my baby girl on the way will have J as her first initial. So I plan to hold on to this one. It also has a magnetic top and a secret drawer for storing your wood polish, a polishing rag and a glass cleaning cloth.
I have to embarrassingly admit that when I initially was trying on the watch, I had a bad case of mom brain. I usually wear watches with buckles and the folding clasp took me a second. Once I realized how to put it on myself and how extremely easy it is to get on and off, I seriously can't even believe that it confused me. Ha!
STYLE. I had a really difficult time deciding between navy, champagne, and emerald for the face color. I just happened to like the shape of the Frankie series the best, so the navy on zebrawood won. The zebrawood is also a great compromise if you can't decide if you like dark or light wood watches, since it has the best of both worlds in a striped color combination. These are some zebra stripes I can approve wearing!
FIT. This is spot on. JORD provides an easy way to measure your wrist for a personalized fit upon arrival. You just print a paper ruler and use that to find your measurement based on their instructions. Mine is great -- no sliding down my arm or feeling too tight. The extra links are there in my fancy box if I ever needed them for resizing.
DESIGN: JORD is a Swedish word meaning earth, soil or land, and I'm a definitely a fan of nature inspiration. Obviously, it is wood and is only splash-proof (not to be submerged in water), but in my life I'm not trying to swim with any of my watches. The face is made of sapphire glass which is actually a synthetic crystal, so it is colorless, optically clear, and allegedly second only to the diamond as the hardest and most scratch resistant materials on the planet. Well, that's cool. As someone who has shattered 17 Apple devices (I wish that was more of an exaggeration than it is), I really need a durable watch face. Over the past few weeks wearing it, no toddler-wrangling or clumsy-momming has put a scratch on it.
Basically my only con is that I could do without a second JORD logo being engraved on the side of the watch. It's no deal breaker, but I would prefer it not be there and only have the one on the watch face. Initially, I also wondered if the face was too large for me, since it's almost the full width of my wrist. After having worn it for a few weeks though, I like the larger face being different from other dainty watches that I have.
PRICE. All of JORD's watches range from about $139-275, and the one I was sent to review is $189. There's an awesome 12 month warranty if the watch has defects, and even if your toddler throws it into a brick wall, you can have it fixed for a small fee.
